Here are some fun Christmas cakes. Most were made in the pre Christmas
rush and with the maximum of haste! I have actually iced a Christmas cake
almost every year for more than twenty years. You would be forgiven for
thinking I should be better at it by now! And where did all the pictures go?
I reckon those cakes tasted so good that they were
eaten before I could even take a quick snapshot!
Robin Christmas Cake
This cake is based on one I saw on the BBC website. The link is shown below if you would like to see the original.

Mouse Christmas Cake
This cake has a sad tale attached to it. Unfortunately we were unable to eat it after a fire broke out in the kitchen and covered it with ash. The icing was stripped off just hours after this picture was taken and we ate the cake without it. Still, the cake was very nice!
Stocking Christmas Cake
Basic shape: A basic square fruit cake. Sometimes it is useful to build up the corners of the cake with marzipan to make them squarer. This is a better base for the icing.
Decor: This cake was decorated by my daughter. Fondant icing is great for a younger person to use.
Ingredients
Fruit cake Marzipan Fondant icing to cover Honey or similar to adhere icing to marzipan Food colouring
Mistletoe Cake
Basic shape: A basic square fruit cake. Sometimes it is useful to build up the corners of the cake with marzipan to make them squarer. This is a better base for the icing.
Decor: The leaves were cut from thickly rolled icing and shaped by pinching at the ends. I think the brown thing may be a robin? I might leave that off if I make this cake again someday :)

Father Christmas Cake
Basic shape: A basic square fruit cake. Sometimes it is useful to build up the corners of the cake with marzipan to make them squarer. This is a better base for the icing.
Decor: The shapes for the figures were made by cutting around a paper template
so that they would all be a similar shape. The boots were made from Liquorice Allsorts. The detail was piped on using Royal Icing.
